La Catalina

Jennifer Gaytan Gonzalez

Grade: 12

Card Number: 19

Refran: "Im afraid if you but still, I wait for you night and day."

Card Description: For my lotería card I wanted to share my thoughts about the way I feel proud to have a tradition of “El Dia De Lo Muertos.” This one of the sad /happy traditions Mexican people can celebrate. This traditions make us bring back the memories we had with our family that pass away, this day make all the family to get together to celebrate this day and remember our ancestors. The movie called “Coco” it’s a good representation of what el día de los muertos means. On this day all the people make altares, in the altares they put pictures, food, the flower called it “cenpasuchil” but the most important thing is to put all the things that the person used to eat, use or watch, so when they came from heaven feel appreciated and demonstrated to them that they are still important and we miss them so much.

Student Biography: My name is Jennifer Gaytan and I am a Senior at (Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom, sister and step dad. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was my cultural, I draw my loteria in order to represent all the traditions that we have and represent the symbol they have in our community. The artistic process was fun, I really enjoy this process but at the same time I stress out because of the drawing it was not correct or the color, but besides that I really enjoy this project, this project make me know more about my topic and learn new things. Life after high school will be different because I will try my best to go to college and get a major and try my best because I will be the first generation in my family to go to college.
