Las Oportunidades
Gil Y. Hilario Lopez

Grade: 12
Card Number: 33
Refran: "Student who is not in school, does not find his future. Education will never exhaust the mind."
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on the school all of us attend and how valuable it is no matter how "run down" it seems. It relates to empowerment as we all know education is important for us and even in the worst of schools we should still take advantage of education. I chose Santa Maia High School as a subject matter because I have personally known the campus and the staff and I have gotten a better idea of how things run around here. The colors in the piece represent the school's colors as well as a bright colors to represent the brightness of our futures. For me personally, this card represents pride that I have for attending SMHS. But I want the audience to see empowerment and the things they can achieve in this school or in any here in SMV
Student Biography: My name is Gil Hilario Lopez and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my biological parents and little sister. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was the negative impact news articles and social media were leaving behind. The artistic process was challenging but interesting to do during the time we had in class. Life after high school will be hopefully going to Cal Poly either as a 4-year or as a transfer from AHC, majoring in Architectural Engineering and hopefully getting a masters degree and a bachelor in music as well.
