Alexis Bustamante Bustamante

Refran: "On the day of the dead, life is celebrated

with offerings and flowers that cheer the soul"

Card Description: none

Student Biography: Hi, my name is Alexis Bustamante, I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I'm from Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico, my parents are too. I was born in Oaxaca along with my 3 brothers, I came here when I was 15 years old. I was working for a while when I wanted to continue studying. What inspired me to make this loteria card was that I like the time when the traditions and customs that people have where I am native arrive. I chose the theme of Day of the Dead because it is something that I love this type of tradition because I love to eat tamales and chocolate, even for burning cuhetes and also because it is a date that is remembered to those who are no longer with us. This tradition is celebrated in many places, perhaps with different beliefs or customs, but always in order to commemorate the faithful departed. My process in making this lottery was a lot of fun because it also made me remember when I was in elementary school and I started to make crafts either for any tradition or custom, it was something very fun in making this lottery card I learned many things about different topics related to social justice that other people also made. Well I also want to talk about what is going to happen to me after I leave Santa Maria High School, well I plan to continue studying until I reach my goal that I set for myself, the truth is that it is very difficult to study and work but you know that nothing is impossible in life if it comes out of your mouth safely. I am very happy that I was able to participate in this activity that I really liked very much.
