El Dream

Raul Hilario-Rojas

Refran: none

Card Description: For my Loteria card I wanted to share my thoughts on The Dream/The American Dream. I chose The Dream/The American Dream as a subject matter because a lot of people want to live the The Dream/The American Dream because they don’t want to get judge and they feel like they would because of their background or of where they come from. The colors in the piece represent how one’s life can change and have nicer grass and better view of how life is The moon represent how everyone wants to change but are sacred of the dark because they don’t know what’s up ahead but life is a mystery and you got to take the risks it gives you and the sun is considered the light to what you worked hard for and are now enjoying the life you wanted and dreamed of. For me personally this card represents lot of lives including mine because we all want The Dream/The American Dream but are scared or some don’t want to work for it but working for it is how you get their and have what you want. But I want the audience to see that taking risks is a part of life and everything and every day is not going to be the best but you still got to enjoy life.

Student Biography: My name is Raul Hilario, and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom and dad and my older brother. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was that a lot of people have dreams and want to pursuit but are scared because they think that cause of their background or where they come from, and that makes them think they can’t have a big dream. Another reason is that people should o for their dreams and accomplish them no matter where they are from or their background. Yes, and sort of no It’s more of I just want people to pursuit their dreams and have fun along the way because anyone can have a big dream and have anything they want if they put in the work for it. The artist process was nice and interesting because it was complicated but fun at the same time because we had to have an idea of how we are going to make the art and make it related to our loteria project. Life after high school will be going to the military and in for the marines and afterwards try to go into trading school to learn about construction and elections and work in the jobs once I’m done.
