Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on Immigration. I chose immigration as a subject matter because I have experience to go through that. Also, it a very hard thing for people to come over and get deported because they aren't a citizen. The colors in the piece represent sad and depression. For me personally, this card represents us because our parents are Mexicans. But I want the audience to see that us Mexican come to the United States to get a better life. Also, our parent does things to make us happy. Tips: Hustle, Struggling, Parents provide for us. What’s at the heart of your Loteria Card? The heart of my Loteria card that it touches home and most Mexican be through. Talk about what inspired to choose your subject for the card. What inspired me to choose this card is that is a very hard thing to go through. Also, another thing is that they reunite with family. Talk about your process or what you learned in your research. What were some assumptions going in that changed you as you learned more about your subject? What I learned is that always be grateful for what you have. It because your parents want to give you a better life than what they been through.
Student Biography: My name is Porfiria Hilario Garcia and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my sister and siblings. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was because I have been through this with my family and other family members. It been hard and I want others to know that us Mexican come to the United States to give our kids a better life. The artistic process was a good experience. Also it was nice and calming to draw about what you been through. Life after high school will be going to training to become a barber or cosmetologist. If my plans doesn't work out for me than I think I will just go ahead and do construction.
