El Abusador

Abisai Rodriguez Lopez,

Refran: "He who doesn't help the abused

does more harm than the abuser"

Card Description: The Loteria Card on Domestic Violence features a dark red background to signify anger, rage, and blood, highlighting the seriousness of the issue. The card depicts a man throwing a punch with a bloody hand while holding a wine bottle in the other, highlighting physical violence and its potential link to alcohol abuse. The blood on his white shirt could indicate that the victim tried to fight back, but was ultimately overpowered by the abuser. The aim of the card is to raise awareness about domestic violence, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse, and encourage conversation around the issue. The hope is to motivate individuals to stand against domestic violence and support victims, as it is a pervasive problem affecting all walks of life, and together we can work to end it.

Student Biography: My name is Abisai Rodriguez and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my dad, mom, brother and sister. What inspired me to draw my Loteria Card was because I wanted to bring awareness to the subject and I'm somewhat familiar with the topic. The artistic process was pretty easy. I liked sketching the man that is the center piece of my card. Life after high school will be good. I will have so much free time due to not having school, I will be able to focus my time on things I enjoy. Although I will have to get a job, at the very least I will be less stressed. School really stresses my out sometimes so the thought of finally being out school for good is like a dream to me. Can't wait for Thanksgiving break.
