El Body Shaming
Adyley Portillo Jarquin

Refran: "What you see in the mirror
Is a lie in my eyes"
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on how people could feel when they get body shamed so much they don't know how they look like anymore. I chose body shaming as a subject matter because many Hispanic people have gotten shamed because of their genetics and how their body is formed. The colors in the piece represent the sadness, loneliness, emptiness you might feel when you get criticized and shamed for looking the way you do. For me personally, this card represents how my friend and I have felt before and I want the audience to see how saying negative comments about someone body might affect them.
Student Biography: My name is Adyley Portillo and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my 2 younger sisters and my parents. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was because I feel like lots of Hispanic people, including me, have gotten body shamed because of how our body is built. The artistic process was really fun, and I really enjoyed painting my loteria card. Life after high school will go to college to become a nurse.
