El Malpractice

Kyndal J. Cleveland

Refran:  "The tragedy that could have been prevented,

Another mistake that calls to death."

Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on the rampant occurrences of malpractice in our community. I chose malpractice as a subject matter because in the past year two of my family members had encounters with malpractice. The colors in the piece represent the bright hope one would have for their sick loved ones; and the dark red for patients that died due to the negligence of the health care professionals they put their trust in. For me personally, this card represents the lives that were lost due to the horrid negligence from the health care professionals which they thought they could trust. But I want the audience to see how malpractice can cause harm from simple mistakes which could have not occurred if proper procedures had been followed.

Student Biography: My name is Kyndal Jean Cleveland, and I am a Senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom, dad, grandma, and little sister. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was because in the past year two of my family members had an encounter with malpractice. The artistic process was satisfying as I saw my ideas came to reality on my canvas. Life after high school will be busy and unpredictable as I endure and push through what fate has in store for me.
