Student Biography: My name is Andrea Mora and I am a family of four. I was born and raised in Santa Maria, California. During my free time I love spending time with my friends and working. My plans after high school are to attend a four year university in San Diego and major in criminal justice. The image I decided to express on my Loteria card was the image of a young mother and her child being able to dress in custom made traditional Folklorico dresses holding hands. As a way to show the mother is passing on her dancing tradition to her daughter. I did it as a representation of “Like mother like daughter”. Because the creation of a traditional dance of a past generation is getting handed over to a new generation through them holding hands as a connection of love. Adding onto my art message my refran goes into a little more detail of the message of my painting, “Never ending traditional dances circled through generations, like a never ending cycle.” Which means these traditions will keep continuing through new generations and the mother passing it onto her children will keep going and be indefinite like a never ending cycle. That’s how I see baile folklorico happening. It will keep being represented & people will keep this tradition with future generations to remind others the importance of their ancestors' traditions and how it should be celebrated.
