Student Biography: My name is Karolina Bravo. I was born in Santa Maria, and I live with my parents and my younger brother. I like to spend time with my family and travel to new places. My plans after high school are to hopefully attend UC Santa Cruz and major in psychology. The topic I chose to represent in my loteria card is mariachi. Mariachi is something very beautiful and important to the Mexican culture. In my painting I chose to represent the main important things of mariachi like the traje and instruments that are used. The traje is important in mariachi because it shows their professionalism, and pride in their culture and traditions. The instruments I chose to represent are the trumpet and guitar. I think that these instruments are essential to mariachi, and it is what ties it all together and makes any song sound beautiful. My painting also includes papel picado. In most parties, there is always papel picado and to me that means celebration and representation. Papel picado is very important for every celebration and it really ties the whole event together. It can be used for any event, and it makes it look extra special. My image is representing Mexico through music and how important it is to keep traditions like mariachi to evolve and adapt to modern times to not die and be forgotten.
