El basurero

Emanuel Hernandez-Cruz

Refran: "The trash we throw away that we don't see. Isn't as harmless as we see."

Card Description: For my Loteria Card, I wanted to share my thoughts on Ocean pollution_.  I chose ocean pollution as a subject matter because it's something that is becoming a very serious issue.  The colors in the piece represent the changes that are caused by pollution.  The images in the piece represent that our actions not only affect us but sea animals as well.  For me personally, this card represents how we could do better to avoid what is portrayed.  I want the audience to see that there are lots of things that could happen when we don't dispose of things properly.

Student Biography: My name is Emanuel Hernandez and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom, dad brother, and sister. My family is from Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent ocean pollution. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was a clip of an organization that did a massive cleanup of trash scattered around the ocean. The artistic process was interesting I got to learn interesting facts about my topic and got to put something together that I thought to be some of the main contributors to pollution. Life after high school will be productive I plan on going to college to study for a couple of years and hopefully get some work experience along the way then I'll just go from there and see what happens.
