El fentanyl
Alexa Valdovinos

Refran: "Strong pain killers dont only kill pain, it can also take you with the pain."
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on Fentanyl Abuse . I chose Fentanyl as a subject matter because I recently lost a family member to it and now in the world there is many overdoses and deaths because of fentanyl. The images in the piece like the road to dead end represent how fentanyl is bad and kills people. The Rx bottle represents how you should only be getting prescribed pills and drugs and not of the street drugs. The warning represents how you should be careful and aware with all types of drugs! The pills represent how they can come in all different colors and some shapes . For me personally, this card represents awareness and preventing people from taking these strong substances. You have a family and many people care for you, don’t lose yourself to drugs there’s many ways to solve your problems and difficulties. Many people die instantly from this and a big percentage of the people are young people and teens. Recently one of my cousins was token from us because of this drug and its sad because he left behind his three children a a very young age. I want the audience to see that how much these substances can be so strong an affective & how its given to younger people by the street sellers. I also want them to see how it affects people and their families, sometimes they pass aways that hurts the family you can prevent that! Only you prescribed drugs from your doctor.
Student Biography: My name is Alexa Valdovinos and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with Mom, sister, dad . My family is from Santa Cruz De las Flores, Jalisco. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent the abuse of fentanyl. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was a family members recent passing, which he was my cousin it inspired me because its an eye opener you really don’t know what people can be giving you and how fast it can affect and kill you 99% of the time , he left a wife and two daughters with a baby on the way its pretty sad, also another thing was that a lot of fentanyl deaths and overdoses are young people. Yes I want to bring awareness to this topic so people can understand to never buy street drugs and only use if they are prescribed to you name by a doctor. The artistic process was pretty cool easy and fast, I loved the colors we were given, it was a fun process . Life after high school will be okay at least I think so I plan on going to a university to study for sonography, I want to become an ultrasound tech but not here I want to move to Texas have my own place and I can possibly open up my own business just like my mother, I want a good life! I will also be working a part time job to save up some money to accomplish what I want.
