Student Biography: My name is Edwin Pacheco, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom and her boyfriend. My family is from Oaxaca, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent gang activity. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was the history of gang involvement that my father’s side has. This has affected me growing up by not having a farther figure since he was in and out of the system. The amount of family I’ve lost due to the violence or due to the system has affected me as well. Due to all this my auntie had to take care of me since my mom was always busy working to support me and my sister. The artistic process was just as I imagined, I watch the vision I had unfold onto the canvas. After high school I will pursue college to further my education.
