El gun violence

Leiddy M Lucaz Garcia

Refran: "The children go to school in fear.

Not knowing if they will return home."

Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on gun violence. I chose as a subject matter because it has became a really big problem all over the world. The colors in the piece represent how such a happy place becomes the darkest place to parents and families. The images in the piece represent a man shooting a boy in school. For me personally, this card represents gun violence and school shootings. I want the audience to see my point in bringing more awareness to gun violence.

Student Biography: My name is Leiddy Lucaz, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my dad, mom, brother, sister, and baby brother. My family is from Oaxaca. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent gun violence. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was the school shooting that happened in Parkland High School in 2018. I personally don’t have any experience related to the subject, but it became a really big issue, and I decided it would be a great subject to talk about and represent. The artistic process was very fun and stressful, the most fun part was painting and making it all come together.  After High School, I plan on majoring in Agriculture Education or become a full time Florist.
