Grade: 12
Card Number: 51
Refran: "Between the bullets and words,
it's always better to choose peace."
Card Description: For my Loteria Card I wanted to share my thoughts on gun violence. I chose gun violence as a subject matter because it is a serious issue that affects many communities and wellbeing of individuals its important that we have gun control ,mental control, health support, and many other factor that contribute to gun violence. The colors in the piece represent the image on how to inspire others to see that gun violence is a genuine thing and that is not fake. The images in the piece represent an individual that protests what is right and for children to stop getting easy access to guns.. For me personally, this card represents what it takes for an individual to change things around the world that many cant stick up for themselves. I want the audience to see what it takes to change laws and have the best gun control so there wouldn’t be any school shootings and for kids not to have easy access to guns.
Student Biography: My name is Jason Lupercio, and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with my mom, dad, brother, and sister. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent gun violence. What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was gun violence because we need to spread awareness to others that fear these things that could happen at their school or in public places. The artistic process was difficult for me because I’ve never been into painting pictures on a canvas nor creating painted pictures. Life after high school will be going to community college for one year to get my phlebotomy license and soon to join the fire department by joining the fire academy.
