I chose Mexican banda music as a subject matter because I want everyone to know about the different styles, different bands, and just overall how awesome Mexican music really is. The colors in the piece represent the fun people can have also the clothes of the musicians. The images in the piece represent anyone and everyone can have a good time while listening to Mexican banda music or just music in general. For me personally, this card represents people living their life's, the ones performing and the audience . I want the audience to see That Mexican music isn’t just meant for Mexican but for anyone, it’s something everyone can jam out to.
Student Biography: My name is Valeria Ovalle and I am a senior at Santa Maria High School. I live in Santa Maria, California with Yadria Arriaga and Ana Reyes. My family is from Cuernavaca, Mexico. In my Loteria card, I chose to represent Mexican banda music What inspired me to draw my Loteria card was because I want more people to know the origin of Mexican music, where’s it’s usually played, what kind of styles of music there is. I have grown up with banda my whole life till this day I still listen to banda. Banda music has evolved in so many way and for the better. The artistic process was fun, I was able to listen to my own music and just paint my heart away. I might not be the best artist out there but it was relaxing being able to draw and paint. Life after high school will be more school. I want to be able to be a school counselor or a therapist for teens. I want to be able to help out people.
